ReVAMPing!

Hi all.. hope you had an amazing New Year's and 2010 brings you nothing but great stuff.  :)-

There are a lot of transitions going on in the Vampness camp, one of which was the last show for Loki the Grump.  Another is the ReVAMPing of the Vampness website.  It's WAY overdue for a change, and changes they are a-comin'...

Although Vampness is in hibernation for a little bit to re-group - and get married!!! - look out for a future collaboration with Joe "Mad Dog" De Sapio.  There are songs already written and in process, and a plan to perform as:  Mad Dog & Vampness

We will keep you updated as details present themselves.

Cheers Vampadres!

Have a Vampy day!

LTG on the 2007 Girls Rock & Girls Rule Tour!!

Press Release!

Rockin´ and Ragin´, Snarlin´ and Screamin´, The Real Girls of Rock are Back With A Vengeance!

The 2007 Girls Rock & Girls Rule Tour!

"What do you get when you put a bunch of kick-a#$ rock chicks together with a sense of purpose? You get a better world –or at the very least a good step towards one—with one great soundtrack" StephenBailey.com

For the past 5 years Girls Rock & Girls Rule has featured the best female rockers on the music scene and this year they continue their mission of creating awareness and exposure for independent female artists while helping women and girls in the community. This year´s tour is going to be bigger and better than ever when GRGR storms the Northeast showcasing phenomenal performers groovin´ on everything from pop-rock, to punk, to metal to hardcore! And GRGR is thrilled to be able to give back and support the next generation of girls who rock through their new partnership with Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls.

This year´s GRGR tour is hitting many more cities and will feature a group of artists who are rocking harder then you could ever imagine. These girls like boys, they play with boys, but they are not one of the boys - they are the real girls of rock and their stage presence, voices, playing and songwriting can stand up against anything!

The 2007 Girls Rock & Girls Rule tour will kick off with special preview shows this August in Hoboken, NJ and Long Island, and then hit the road for 10 days from September 21-October 1. GRGR kicks off in Washington, DC and then travels through Baltimore, Delaware, Pennsylvania, NJ, NY, MA, and RI, and finally ending up back home in Brooklyn, NY. (see full tour schedule below) The shows feature GRGR bands from the past events including four core tour bands; G-spot, Marisa Mini, Loki the Grump and RewBee who will be partnered in each city with their local sister bands. This insures a strong local audience and gives bands an opportunity to gain exposure with new fans while offering local live music lovers some fresh new sounds they might not otherwise have had a chance to hear. Bands that are currently scheduled to appear include; Edible Red, Tsang, The Catholic Girls, All Out Riot, Esmirelda & The Tidbits, The Twats, Emiko, Odd Girl Out, Control Freaks, The Degenerettes, Semiblind, Spark is Diamond, If Man is Five, Silence Bleeds and Cootie Shot with many more to be announced. In addition, there will be special guest appearances at select shows from Willie Mae Rock Camp camper bands and a portion of the proceeds from each event and from sponsors will be donated to Willie Mae.

In addition to the showcases, the Girls Rock & Girls Rule Documentary film is in production and scheduled for release in December 2007. It will premiere at the NYC 6th Anniversary showcase, but fans will have a chance to get a sneak peek at tour stops this fall. The film follows the ladies on tour, showcasing the live performances while taking you on a fascinating journey with today´s hardest rockin´ female musicians. Audiences will learn what it really means to be an independent female artist today, share their struggles and successes, and have a chance to experience these ladies ragin´, rantin´, snarlin´ and screamin´ both on and off stage!

Given the challenging state of the music industry, GRGR is on the cutting edge of the next trend in music bringing female rockers to the forefront today. The time has come for a platform that will bring attention to all the fantastic women who are making the kind of music people want to hear. These are not re-touched pop princesses or radio clones, they are unique, original and ready to show the world they can rock as hard if not harder than their male counterparts!

Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls was founded in 2004 and is a New York City-based non-profit summer day camp serving girls aged 8-18. The program offers girls the chance to learn how to play musical instruments, write songs, perform, learn about different types of music, and generally "rock out" in a supportive environment that fosters self-confidence, self-esteem, creativity, tolerance, and collaboration. The camp is named after Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton, a blues and rock performer/songwriter who was one of the first women to play the music that came to be known as "rock n´ roll." The camp grew out of the Portland, Oregon-based program Rock n´ Roll Camp for Girls, which was founded in 2000. (www.williemaerockcamp.org)

GRGR thanks onlinegigs.com for their help with booking this year´s tour as well as sponsors Sam Ash and Jakprints.

Loki the Grump is closing out the year for Girls Rock & Girls Rule back in good ole NYC, with a very special guest guitarist... that's right Grumpies.. it's the return of HOWIE, for one night only! Don't miss it.

Doors at 6:30pm, Music kick-off at 7:00pm SHARP!

$10 Tax deductible donation benefiting Voices of Women Organizing Project, Battered Women's Resource Center (a GREAT cause)

Plus $2.00 PBRs all night or until it runs out! As always there will be some awesome giveaways & prizes from GRGR's sponsors & supporters including E2 Earphones from Shure, PBR Swag, some tops from Le Tigre, $50 Sam Ash Gift Certificate, $50 Acme Grill Gift Certificate & more! And, the staple GRGR snack, Luna Bars!

And the bands? Fuhgeddabout it!

AMAZING, AMAZING bands, from here AND from our mini-tour. In fact.. two of our FAVORITE bands from upstate (If Man Is Five & Missing Marcus) are FINALLY coming down to rock this show! And you, Grumpies, MUST stay for them cause you will love them as much as we do!

Not to mention our dear, dear local buddies: Loudlife, G-spot and RewBee!

And new buddies from the Long Island show: Sea of Static & Stark!

And probably-future-buddies-but-we-haven't-met-them-yet from Philadelphia: September

To kick off the night, Gail (G-spot & creator of this whole crazy entity of GRGR) booked some rockin' chicks from the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls where she volunteered this summer, which'll be REALLY cool! Why? Well... starting off is the Willie Mae Volunteer Band which will treat you to amazing covers of Ironman & Cherry Bomb. Following that and opening the show will be camper band Electric Blue featuring the next generation of girl rockers (ages 11-18)! How cool is that??!?

So, after that, the awesome GRGR Line-up, which is made up of MANY Grumpies by the way, is:

Loudlife, September, Loki the Grump, Sea of Static, G-spot, Rewbee, Stark, Missing Marcus, If Man is Five

SO.. make sure you put this on your calendar now! This is the BEST way to kick off the Holiday season, and to celebrate and support women in music and the community and the live music scene (before all the clubs disappear)!

Loki the Grump has been included on a tribute CD! Go to www.sharptribute.com for complete details:

TROOPERS RALLY IN TRIBUTE TO DAVE SHARP (and to raise money for cancer research, for the cause of Mike Peters)

The songs of Dave Sharp are to be featured on a tribute CD featuring performances from Dave's own fans. The disk is to be titled Take A Look At The Punks, taken from the line in Dave's song Tell Me.

The project began when Californian fan and coffee bar singer-guitarist Damien Riley started entertaining himself by working out his own versions of some of Dave's songs & recording them on his home studio.

Discussing and sharing these songs with friends on the davesharp.org messageboards, Damien found he wasn't alone in his passion. Other musician fans who had been inspired by Dave's writing & playing also wanted to record Dave's songs. The 'Dave Sharp Covers Project' as it came to be known soon had bands across the US, in the UK & in Germany heading into studios to record their interpretations, a way of expressing their thanks to Dave for his inspiration.

When it was first suggested that these recordings could actually be released on CD, nobody too the idea particularly seriously, but as interest and the number of songs grew, it became a real possibility. When in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, it was suggested that the CD could be a charity fundraiser, the project really began to come together.

Then during the final stages of the project, the news of Mike Peter's diagnosis with cancer was announced. With Mike & The Alarm having been as much an influence on many of the contributors as Dave, the decision was quickly taken that proceeds should be donated towards a cancer related charity.

The organisers are putting the finishing touches to the audio & artwork and hope to have the CD available by the end of January. It will be available to order by post and online from a dedicated website.

davesharp.org are working with the organisers to make the CD available to Dave fans everywhere while trying to raise the maximum amount possible for charity. More news of the project will appear here as soon as we have it, but in the meantime, for further info, e-mail tribute@sharptribute.com

A friend posted this on live journal.. I had to steal it:

Rules for Non-Pet Owners Who Visit and like to Complain About Our Pets.

1. They live here. You do not.
2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture (that's why they call it "fur"niture.)
3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours
and doesn't speak clearly.

Dogs and cats are better than kids. They eat less, do not ask for money all the time, are easier to train, usually come when called, never drive your car, do not hang out with drug using friends, do not smoke or drink, do not worry about having to buy the latest fashions, do not wear your clothes, and do not need a gazillion dollars for university, and if they get pregnant, you can sell the children.

Posted on the Loki the Grump site:

My god...

The devastation from Hurricane Katrina... there are no words to describe the aching in our souls for all of the victims...

Here's one way Loki the Grump is trying to help:

CD Baby has asked their members to donate the proceeds of their CDs sold on CD Baby to the American Red Cross.

Of course, we said YES!

SO... if you have been looking to help and haven't figured out how you want to do it yet... this is a wonderful way!

NOTE: We will NOT receive a single cent from this purchase... it is going DIRECTLY to the American Red Cross via CD Baby. (CD Baby's share of member's sales will also apparently be donated, though they're not advertising it... just FYI)

And there are TONS of bands doing the same thing we are, so why not check out some great new music on CD Baby AND do something kind for those in need at the same time!

http://www.cdbaby.com/lokithegrump

Thank you dear GRUMPIES.. you really ARE the best!

FUN, FUN, FUN!!!! Wow, what a blast our debut at Siberia was. And the audience rocked like crazy!!! For those who were there.. THANK YOU for making it so memorable and amazing. For those of you who were not there, well.. you missed something quite special. I highly recommend you coming to the next gig!! :)-

You can hear the very-poorly-recorded songs from the live show on the 'songs' page!
Sunday, June 6th, 2004 12:29 PM EDT
Revolutionary Records in conjunction with Jafzi Entertainment has put together a smashing 3-for-the-price-of-1 summer event on Friday, June 25th at Siberia! (i.e. the "get out your aggression NOW so that you can have a nice peaceful summer" show!) ;)-

Loki the Grump ("we put the fun back in grump"), is finally debuting for your listening.. um.. pleasure?! Yes, that´s right, listening pleasure!!!!! And now.. I´m right up front. No more drums in front of me. Mm-hmm… your very own Vampness, right in your face, grumping away.. and enjoying every moment! What kind of music? GRUMPY, of course!!! What does that mean? Well.. you´ll just have to come see for yourself…

For those of you STILL coming off that Flowers Inside reunion high (and we know who you are), this is the place to get that next fix! We cover a couple of F.I. songs, one Vampness song, we have a bunch of new songs and a few other goodies in there. For the rest of you.. well, you´ll just have to take that leap of faith and show up! It´ll be well worth it… I promise you! (pssst.. a hint.. bring earplugs) You can take a sneak peek at: www.lokithegrump.com

And if Loki the Grump alone isn´t enough for you (sheez.. you must have some appetite)… this is a THREE BAND NIGHT for ONE LOW PRICE of $5.

We´re the first ones to rock you… and then here are the other incredibly appetizing bands on the menu…

SEXY, CRAZY, HOT, HOT, HOT NYC FAVE G-Spot returns to the scene to love you and leave you, after taking a performance break to work on their new album (with Lorraine Ferro producing)! I´ve heard snippets of it and it´s friggin´ amazing. It is going to BLOW YOU AWAY!!! And you lucky people get a sneak peek at the new songs at this show! You CAN´T miss it. Check ´em out at: www.gspotband.com

Now what´s a show like this worth? Whew.. $15 at LEAST.. but you get that AND more for the special price of $5. And if you act now, or on this one night alone, you also get…

… TO BE A ROCK STAR, TOO! That´s right. Everyone´s fave 80s new wave cover band, ATOMIC, (a.k.a. the alter-ego of Mercury Boy), not only rocks up your favorite 80s new wave songs.. which is friggin´ cool enough for me… they also have YOU participate in their special, unique live karaoke performances for some of those songs. Come re-live the 80s.. ATOMIC style! Fun, fun, FUN! More info: www.mercuryboy.com/atomic

Michele here... how are ya?
Just wanted to give you a quick update...

The ceremony for the Abe Olman scholarship award will be June 8th!! I just found out I get a plaque! FUN!! :)-

LOKI THE GRUMP has been rehearsing and we're just about ready to play out! Of course we'll let you know when we're playing. We're coming to get you...

DUSKMUSIK is coming along slowly but wonderfully. We're about to record the song "Time" at Realm Studio in Williamsburg. Great studio - nice vibe there! I've got some amazingly talented players on this song... all will be revealed in time. (ha ha get it.. "time").
Also.. laid down a piano track for the song "Stranger". Elizabeth Jordan played the piano - and she did the most beautiful job of it. Larry brought us to his local church for this recording - the whole vibe and everything just added to it. It was nice and haunting... just the way I like it!

So my Vampadres... am updating this site as we speak. Please check back again soon and THANK YOU for coming by!
:)- See ya out there...

GREAT NEWS that has nothing to do with Geico! ;)-

Michele has just been officially informed that, through the National Academy of Popular Music - Songwriters Hall of Fame, she is one of the winners of "the Abe Olman Scholarship for Excellence in Songwriting [which is] awarded annually to gifted young lyricists and composers chosen from songwriter programs sponsored by ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, SGA, NAPM-SHOF" (woo hoo.. it said 'young')

YAY!! This is a pretty big deal! She's very, very psyched about it!! We all are!! :)-

Check out NAPM-SHOF: www.songwritershalloffame.org
A very, very groovy organization!

The FLOWERS INSIDE gig on Wed the 27th ROCKED! Illness and all!
Thanks to all of you who filled up Acme Underground with your amazing energy. We had a blast and it's all thanks to you!

So many people came up to us afterwards to request that this NOT be a one-night gig. Sorry guys.. unlike those other 'reunion' bands.. this really was a one-night thing (at least for this year! lol). but DAMN.. how cool is THAT kind of feedback?

But don't worry.. we won't leave you thirsting.. Keep your eyes and ears open for the debut of LOKI THE GRUMP, an offshoot of Flowers Inside, which you are sure to enjoy just as much. A bunch of great songs have already been completed with a bunch more on the verge.

The only thing the band is missing is a GUITARIST and BASSIST! If you or anyone you know is looking to be in a cool band dedicated to having FUN, although the lyrics might suggest something a bit different... like anger & despair (but hey.. that can be fun! It all depends on how you look at it!)... then come join us. The music tends towards The Muffs meets Rollins Band with a dip o'The Damned. We've got the singer (me) and the drummer (Dawn) although I will play bass too, if I have to, 'til we find our mates! In the words of Evil Dead.. "join us, join us, join us".. heheheh
